Addictive behaviors in schizophrenic patients: Descriptive and analytical study

Introduction The association of an addictive disorder (harmful use, abuse or dependence) with a schizophrenic is the rule. Genetic vulnerability and social economic factors are common to both disorders. Objectives determine impact behavior on patients suffering from schizophrenia. Methods A descriptive analytical retrospective study 150 schizophrenia hospitalized in psychiatry department Taher Sfar University Hospital Mahdia January 2017 December 2021. Results average age was 39.8 ± 11.23 years predominance group 36-45 (38.4%). All were male. Three quarters (75.5%) consumers psychoactive substances (PSA): nearly three (72.8%) dependent tobacco, more than third (39.7%) alcohol, quarter (29.1%) cannabis almost (26.5%) other SPAs. Criminal history, suicide attempts hospitalization significantly frequent who consumed SPA those did not consume (39.5% vs 8.1%; p=0.008, 17.5% 2.7%; p=0.02, 89.5 % 75.7%; p=0.03, respectively). Patients had positive signs (51.8% 10.8%; p=0.001) less observant treatment (55.3% 16.3%; consume. Hetero-aggressiveness, self-aggressiveness job change behaviors without addiction (86.8% 48.7%; p=0.001, 23.7% p= 0.004, 14.9% 0%; p=0.015, Multivariate analysis revealed that criminal hetero-aggressiveness, predominant symptomatology work stoppage independently associated consumption our (β=14.7 95% CI 3.23–67.01, β=0.099, 0.03–0.31, β=7.18, 2.09–24.67, p=0.002, β=5.24 1.27–21.7; Conclusions According study, comorbidities concern patients. They expose them higher risk legal problems, instability at work.
